(KF1 is not a prerequisite for KF2).

Level 3 Strokes & Rescues

This comprehensive course is one of our most popular. It is designed to introduce students to the many facets of coastal kayaking. Some of the topics in this course include: Kayak types and parts, safety equipment and use, fit, launching & landing, wet exits (you will get wet here), individual and assisted re-entry techniques, all basic strokes and maneuvers, introduction to bracing. We usually finish this course with a short tour where we can immediately put to use our new strokes and maneuvers.
Duration: 6-8 hours
Prerequisite: Although no previous instruction is required, it is suggested that you have spent some time in a kayak.
Price: $100

Rescue Clinic

This is a safety-oriented class designed for paddlers who are interested in paddling closed cockpit or touring kayaks. You will learn the proper techniques for exiting and then re-entering your kayak while in deep water. We cover both assisted and self rescues. Many people in this class have just purchased or are considering purchasing touring kayaks and want to know "what to do in the event of a capsize". Knowing that you can safely get back in your boat is probably the single most important ingredient in adding fun and enjoyment to your paddling.
Prerequisite: None (willingness to get wet)
Duration: 2-3 hours
Price: $50

Advanced Strokes and Maneuvers (Stroke Refinement)

This course is designed to help intermediate paddlers perfect their strokes and is great preparation for open water skills. Rather than just performing the strokes we will fine-tune them so that they are fluid, efficient and effective. We will emphasize the use of the entire body to propel and maneuver the kayak. Through the use of videotape analysis we will give you a clear idea of how your stroke is doing and where you may be able to improve. The strokes covered will include: Forward, reverse, sweeps, static, sculling and hanging draws, bow & stern rudder, braces, low & high brace turns.
Prerequisite: Essentials course or level one assessment
Duration 6-8 hours
Price $100

Bracing & Edging

Looking to take your paddling to another level? Paddling in rougher conditions such as waves, surf, current or wind are all dependent on your ability to edge your kayak. Touring kayaks, when upright, track well and are quite fast.  However, if you tilt them on their edge their footprint totally changes. Instead of a long narrow boat, you  have a short boat with lots of rocker and the ability to turn on a dime, remain stable in surf, and easily cross current. You will learn to use your lower body to control the kayak the way it was intended. You will also learn how to recover from a capsize by incorporating high and low braces - another essential element in paddling in rougher conditions. This is a 2 hour course and is a prerequisite to most of our advanced classes! Cost :$50

Surf Launch & Landing

Learn the basics of launching and landing through the surf. This course is a must for anyone interested in paddling in the ocean. You will learn how to read the surf as well as numerous techniques for launching and landing. This course is usually taught in touring kayaks.
